How to protect your wallet recovery phrase
Keep your Solana wallet recovery details private, recognize common phishing requests, and prepare before losing access to a device.
Your recovery phrase or private key can give someone control of your wallet. Keep it private, protect your chosen backup method, and understand how to restore access before you rely on the wallet for meaningful funds.
What is safe to share?
A public wallet address can be used to receive assets and inspect public activity. A transaction signature can help support identify an on-chain transaction. A recovery phrase, private key, password, or backup credential should not be shared in a support chat, email, social message, or screen recording.
A person claiming to be support may say you need to “validate,” “synchronize,” or “unlock” your wallet by entering recovery details into a website. Treat that as a warning sign. Use links from Nova’s official website and never assume that a direct message or search advertisement is authentic.
Build a recovery plan before you need one
Follow the backup instructions provided by your wallet. If you use a phrase backup, preserve the exact words and order in a secure place. If your setup uses an encrypted cloud backup, protect the account and credentials required to restore it. Avoid casually copying recovery information into notes, shared photo libraries, or messages.
Different backup methods have different failure modes. A device passcode, a cloud-account password, and a recovery phrase are not interchangeable. Confirm what your own setup needs instead of assuming that replacing your phone restores everything automatically.
What if the phone is lost?
Use the recovery method you established. Install Nova through its verified App Store listing and follow the app’s recovery flow.
